Muffin Tin Monday

Happy Halloween!! It's Muffin Tin Monday and I tried to get into the spirit of Halloween and make Ian's muffin tin meal fun.  On the menu: carrots, cheez-its, a Halloween candy, ranch for dipping, sausages (that's what he wanted), and apples cut into pumpkin shapes.  I used my even popular pumpkin and spider cupcake cups.  What did you have in your muffin tin today?

Birthday Cake

Today is my dad's birthday so the kids and I baked him a cake this afternoon.  It was the first cake they did together and they did a great job.  There wasn't any fighting, yelling, no mess, nothing got broken, and no one got hurt.  I would say that is was very successful. I see more of this kind of thing in our future. It's fun to do stuff like this with them now that they are a little older and have a real interest in cooking and baking.  I am doing to try and find lots of things for us to bake/cook over the next couple of months for the holidays.  Anyway, they really did a great job this afternoon. They took turns putting ingredients into the bowl and they were really careful using the mixer.  Isabella surprised me with how well she can crack eggs into a bowl.  I was a proud momma!  We took the cake to my parents and everyone loved it.  The cake tasted yummy and the kiddos got lots of compliments on it.  I'm sure this is the first of many cakes for them.

Getting all of the ingredients in the bowl and ready to mix.

All done and ready for the oven.

Isabella had the honor of frosting the cake while Ian was napping.

She wanted to do a little graveyard scene on the cake.  I think she's happy with how it came out.

All ready for grandpa's birthday.

Pre Halloween Food Fun

So I decided that since today was the day before Halloween and both kids would be home all day I was going to do some fun Halloween food. For breakfast I busted out my pumpkin and spider cupcake cups and made chocolate chip muffins.  The kids love chocolate chip muffins so these were a hit.

For lunch I got out my pumpkin cookie cutters and cut their lunch meat and cheese into cute little pumpkins.  Isabella wanted tomato soup and Ian wanted green mac n cheese so I served them in some crescent moon silicone muffin cups.  I found the moon cups at a Dollar Tree store last year and this was the first time I used them.  They each had a fruit cup (I try to get some fruits and veggies in at lunch and these fruit cups are a favorite).  I also added couple of candy pumpkins.  They loved their Halloween themed lunch and I was happy I took the extra time to make it fun for them.

What fun activities are you doing this Halloween?

More Pumpkin Patch Fun

Here are some more photos of our trip to the pumpkin patch.  Enjoy!!

The pig races were so much fun!

Time for a hay ride.

We picked the perfect pumpkins.

Time to get lost in the corn maze.

Picture time!! Hmmmm....someone is missing.

Now that's better!!

Okay, that kid corn maze was way too easy. Time for the big corn maze.

Time to check out the petting zoo.

Pirate Costume

I finished sewing Ian's pirate costume on Tuesday with my moms help. All I can say is it is too cute! My mom made patterns for the vest and pants and I did all of the sewing. The pants gave us some trouble at first but once we figured out the best way to start sewing them it was smooth sailing from there. Tomorrow I'm going to finish Bella's pirate princess tutu and then I'm all done. I'm so glad I made their costumes this year. I feel like such a super mom. I wonder what I'll make next?
