BFF's

This is Lainey. She has been Isabellas BFF since they were babies. They were born about 6 months apart and grew up together. They spent most of their time together in the church nursery during Sunday School, worship time and Womens Bible Study. They were in Awana together. They had lots of playdates and were always present at each others birthday parties. So when Laineys dad got a job in another town and their family had relocate it was a sad time for the girls. Not to mention how sad it was for their mothers. We had become close friends too. We were all sad about the changes but Laineys mom and I knew that it would be up to us to keep the girls in contact and get them together as often as we could. So last summer we had Lainey over for a week. They went to VBS, baked, painted, swam, went to dance class and watched movies. Then Isabella spent some time with Lainey and her family over summer and Christmas breaks. So the tradition of summer vacations with each other continues. Isabella is over there now and Lainey will come and spend time with us in July. They are as close as ever and I hope that they continue to be the best of friends.

Summer Fun

We are enjoying summer time around here.  Ian is on his second week of swim lessons and it’s going much better than last week.  Mr. G is in Texas for work so it’s just been the kids and I holding down the fort until he comes back on Friday.  Today I thought I’d take my monkeys to get a yummy frozen treat after Ian’s swim lesson.  It was 107 degrees here so the temperature certainly called for a nice cold frozen something to help cool us down.  I think as soon as Mr. G returns we will do this again.  Maybe even have ice cream for dinner. I’m sure the kids won’t mind one bit. How are you spending the hot summer days?

Muffin Tin Monday

It’s definitely summertime around here. There is a lot of sleeping in, staying up late, wearing our pj’s until after lunch and swimming for hours on end.   Today the kids jumped in their little pool and soaked up the sun for about an hour before lunchtime.  When they came in they were ready to eat.  They had definitely worked up an appetite.  I tried to change things up today and they were very happy with what was on the menu. Here’s what they had: chicken taquitos, chicken empanadas, grapes, pb & j pinwheels, salsa and ranch for dipping.  They washed it all down with lime Tang. I love summertime!

Happy Fathers Day

Happy fathers day to my husband. He is the most amazing dad ever.  He has been a hands on dad since both of our kids were born.  He changed diapers, gave baths, fed, and rocked our babies to sleep.  He stays home with them on weekends when I go out of town and doesn’t ask the grandmas for help.  He plans father-daughter Disneyland trips every year. He brings back souvenirs from business trips.  He goes on bike rides.  He lays on the floor to play. He brushes little girls hair and makes sure all the tangles are out.  He takes them for ice cream and cleans all the drippy messes.  He has water gun fights.  He builds sandcastles. He gives piggy back rides. He takes lots of photos and captures everyday moments. He has breakfast with them every morning and dinner with them every night.  He goes to recitals and swim lessons.  He helps with fundraisers. He takes time off from work to be at assemblies. He brags about his kids. He has lots of pictures of them on his phone. He works hard for our family. He is amazing and we are blessed to have him.

Swim Lessons

Ian had his first day of swim lessons today.  He was really excited about it but once we got there his mood changed.  He was quiet and looked a little apprehensive.  He did good for the first 15 minutes and then he broke down and cried every time it was his turn with the instructor.  His instructor is a gentleman who we go to church with.  His daughter is Ian's Sunday school teacher and he was really excited that Miss Cory's dad was going to teach him how to swim because he LOVES Miss Cory. Anyway, he was happy when his lessons were over but he was also very excited about learning to make bubbles and grabbing the pool rings.  He said he wants to go back tomorrow.  I'm glad he's happy, we have 7 more days of  lessons.

Muffin Tin Monday

It's Muffin Tin Monday again!!!  Having more than one child often means having different preferences in food so you will notice that the food in our muffin tins varies for each child.  I encourage them to try new things but you can't help it if you don't like a certain kind of food.  I'm not one to force my kids to eat anything I know they don't like.  We just introduce it again at a later time hoping that their food preferences change.  Sometimes they do and sometimes they don't.  Anyway, here's what we had today: yogurt, apples, PB & J, olive, carrots w/ranch, cucumbers w/lemon, Spanish rice.

Lazy Days

I haven’t felt like doing much of anything this week.  I’m not exactly sure why but I mostly felt like staying in my pajamas and watching TV.  I did do a little of that I have to admit. I also didn’t do as much housework as I should have.  The weather is getting a little warmer and it made me a little lazier.  I felt like the week was flying by fast I was standing still watching it from the outside.  I couldn’t let the week get away from me without having accomplished anything so today I went to lunch with my kiddos, my mom and my niece.  We went to Panera Bread and had some of the yummiest food ever. I love their salads. They are the best. We had a nice time until Ian started acting like a “menace to society” (Isabella’s words).  I took said menace to the bathroom for a “talk” then we left before we were asked to leave and never return again.  We made a quick trip to Target and then headed home. Lucky for me Mr. Menace fell asleep in the van.  When I got home I decided to work on a project that I have had on the backburner all week.  So I busted out my scrapbook supplies and went to work.  I wanted to make a mini album to keep track of all of our fun summer activities and travels.  I made it 5.5x7 so I could add more photos to the pages and any memorabilia we might gather on our vacation. I used a Hambly overlay for the covers and patterned paper throughout the album.  I inserted some journal cards to write down important info . I recently ordered some paper specifically for this project so I won’t show you the inside pages until it’s complete. So today wasn’t a total wash and  I didn’t act like a total sloth this week either.  Hope your week was more productive.
